Gardening Questions and Answers

A new gardening question of the day appears every day of the year on the front page of Almanac.com. Below is the answer to one of the questions from our Gardening Questions and Answers Archive where you can find over 400 more gardening questions (with answers!).

Question:

I live in Massachusetts. I have a trellis (10x20 feet) and am looking for a vine that stays green in the winter. What would you recommend?

Answer:

Besides English ivy, we'd suggest five-leaved akebia (Akebia quinata). It is not completely evergreen, but leaves remain on the vine long into the winter. Another evergreen vine, Euonymus fortunei radicans, also would meet your needs, but it is subject to scale infestations.
